Idaho is the 43rd state to enter into the union in 1890. The capital city is Boise, the population is 205,314 and is also known as "the city of the trees". The state flower is the Syringa, the state bird is the mountain blue bird and the state tree is the western white pine. Idaho is best known for its friendly people, many outdoor sports such as hiking, biking, bird watching, hunting and fishing. People from all over the world tour Idaho for its beautiful natural scenery as well as several types of precious stones. Hell’s Canyon National Recreation Area is a very popular tourist attraction, created by the snake river, the canyon is 6,500 ft. It’s also the deepest gorge in the nation. Another favorite attraction is the Old Idaho Penitentiary Historical Site. The prison was built in 1870 and made of hand cut sandstone. Vacation Travelers say this is something for the whole family to experience, and it’s inexpensive and just a little eerie.

The "Craters on the Moon" national monument and preserve, are among the top tourist attractions in Idaho and you can experience the ocean of lava with scattered Islands of cinder cones and sagebrush. You can walk around the flat surfaces and hike in the rougher areas to climb on volcanoes. Exploring caves and tunnels is encouraged but come prepared with a light source that will last a couple of hours, plenty of water and hard hats as well as sturdy footwear. Some of the tunnels and caves take a while to get through, the tour guides will explain the walking conditions prior to the tour, stay with your group and watch your head. However there are shorter tunnel/cave tours that provide some light. There is so much natural beauty in Idaho, take your time and relax as you enjoy the scenery.

If you want to stay at a luxury suite, the Homewood Suites by Hilton Boise are also reasonably priced and close to the Boise airport as well as several restaurants and shopping. The rates start at $139.00 per night for the Two bedrooms (sleeps 4) one bath suite. The amenities include a full kitchen with a microwave, a separate living area with a sofa bed and laundry facilities. They also have a billiard room, an exercise room and complimentary grocery shopping services. Some of the nearby restaurants are McGrath’s Fish House, Legends Pub & Grille as well as fine dining restaurants.
